Updated 5 October 2026 · By Ritu K Talreja, founder of Wholesale Trend In Need, a Mumbai-based B2B saree supplier with buyers across Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and the rest of South India

If you run a saree shop, boutique or reseller business in Hyderabad, Chennai or Bengaluru, you have two ways to buy stock wholesale: visit your city's traditional wholesale markets, or order online from suppliers who source directly from India's weaving hubs. The best buyers use both. This guide shows where each city's wholesale saree markets are, what they are strongest in, current wholesale prices for North Indian weaves, and how to order them online from 10 pieces.

Quick answer:
  • Hyderabad: the old city around Charminar (Madina and Pathergatti), Begum Bazar, and General Bazaar in Secunderabad.
  • Chennai: Sowcarpet in George Town for wholesale; T. Nagar for large retail showrooms.
  • Bengaluru: Chickpet and nearby lanes such as Avenue Road and Balepet.
  • For North Indian weaves (Kota Doria, Banarasi, Bhagalpur tussar, linen), many South Indian boutiques now buy online direct from the source. Our wholesale prices start at ₹330–₹570 a piece, with an MOQ of 10.

Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru compared

City Main wholesale areas Local weaves to buy locally Weaves usually sourced from North India
Hyderabad Charminar area (Madina, Pathergatti), Begum Bazar, General Bazaar (Secunderabad) Pochampally ikat, Gadwal, Narayanpet Kota Doria, Banarasi, Bhagalpur tussar, linen
Chennai Sowcarpet (George Town); T. Nagar for retail showrooms Kanchipuram silk, Chettinad cotton, Madurai Sungudi Kota Doria, mulmul, linen, Banarasi blends
Bengaluru Chickpet, Avenue Road, Balepet Mysore silk, Ilkal, Molakalmuru Linen and cotton for office wear, Kota Doria, Banarasi blends

The pattern is the same in all three cities: local markets are excellent for South Indian weaves, because the weaving centres are close by. Sarees woven in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh or Bihar usually pass through more traders before they reach a South Indian market, which adds margin at each step.

Wholesale sarees in Hyderabad

Where to go

  • Charminar, Madina and Pathergatti: the old-city textile belt, with wholesale and retail shops for sarees, dress material and bridal wear.
  • Begum Bazar: one of Hyderabad's oldest and busiest wholesale markets, trading in textiles as well as general goods.
  • General Bazaar, Secunderabad: a long-standing market for sarees, clothing and accessories.

What sells

Hyderabad buyers stock Telangana handlooms such as Pochampally ikat, Gadwal and Narayanpet for weddings and festivals, and light cotton, Kota Doria and linen for the long, hot summer. Wedding demand also supports Banarasi silk-blend sarees.

Wholesale dress material in Hyderabad

Unstitched suits are a natural add-on for Hyderabad saree shops. Our wholesale dress material ranges from ₹695 to ₹1,620 a set (median ₹950), including Kota Doria suits and gota patti suits.

Hyderabad tip: Bathukamma and Dussehra fall in September–October, followed by Deepavali and the winter wedding season. Place orders for North Indian weaves at least three to four weeks before you need them on the shelf.

Wholesale sarees in Chennai

Where to go

  • Sowcarpet (George Town): Chennai's traditional wholesale district, with lanes of textile wholesalers and traders.
  • T. Nagar (Ranganathan Street, Usman Road): famous for large saree showrooms. It is mainly retail, so it is better for studying trends than for wholesale prices.
  • Kanchipuram: about two hours from Chennai, the source for genuine Kanchipuram silk.

What sells

Chennai's hot, humid climate keeps cotton in demand all year. Light mulmul cotton sarees (our wholesale range: ₹410–₹869), Kota Doria and linen sit well alongside local Chettinad cotton and Kanchipuram silk.

Wholesale sarees in Bengaluru

Where to go

  • Chickpet: one of the oldest markets in the city and the heart of Bengaluru's saree and textile wholesale trade.
  • Avenue Road and Balepet: the surrounding lanes, with more textile traders and saree shops.

What sells

Bengaluru has a large working population, so office-friendly linen, cotton and daily wear and office sarees sell steadily, alongside Mysore silk for weddings and festivals.

No. Wholesale prices exclude 5% GST and shipping, which are added at checkout. Every order comes with a GST invoice, and a GST number is not compulsory to buy.

Is it cheaper to visit the market or buy wholesale sarees online?
